Boost for Llandudno as Wildwood and Body Shop confirmed to stay in town!

Date:

Mostyn Estates have received confirmation from Tasty PLC, the firm behind the Wildwood chain, that their Llandudno restaurant will remain open.

The Italian restaurant arrived in Llandudno, on Mostyn Street, in October 2016.

In further good news, it appears the Body Shop at the Victoria Centre will also continue trading.

A spokesperson from Mostyn Estates Ltd told the Pioneer: “Mostyn Estates have received confirmation from Tasty PLC that their Llandudno restaurant, Wildwood, will remain open and continue to be a vibrant presence in the town.

“This follows news that The Body Shop unit at The Victoria Centre will also remain trading, highlighting that Llandudno remains an attractive and active retail destination.

“These encouraging developments are echoed by the successful opening of commercial art gallery Ffin Y Parc who relocated to Trinity Square earlier this year. The retention of high-profile brands in Llandudno with the addition of new offerings continues to enhance the experience of the town.”

Last week, Tasty revealed plans to shut a raft of Wildwood restaurants as part of a major restructuring programme.

Tasty, which also runs sites under Dim T brand, said it plans to exit around 20 loss-making restaurants after a “challenging” start to the year.

The Body Shop fell into administration in early February after previous forecasts for how much funding it would need to keep going proved too low.

In the weeks that followed, administrators said that hundreds of jobs would be lost and dozens of shops closed.

Earlier this month, administrators for the Body Shop said they are pushing for a company voluntary arrangement, which would let the business keep trading and pay off its debts over time.

The administrators said that they had won support from Aurelius, the business that bought the Body Shop less than four months ago, to push ahead with the plan.

They said that the £600,000 the Body Shop owes to employees for pay, pension contributions and holiday pay would be paid in full under the plan. Even if the plans for a so-called company voluntary arrangement (CVA) failed, the money should still be paid out.
