I cannot claim knowledge on Kaia Gerber’s interior life, but I have been trained in making often-inaccurate statements about the clothes celebrities dress in. I understand that Kaia is an ascendant model-turned-actor and I understand that she runs a book club on Instagram. I also understand that she likes to reset her nervous system while strolling through farmers markets, and that she will sometimes be accompanied by a cotton canvas “Museum Of Peace And Quiet” tote bag.
Though her glamorous lineage might suggest otherwise, Kaia will not be photographed spilling out of late-night taxis in miniskirts and spaghetti-strapped tops. No, she will be photographed in patchwork midi-skirts and grandma-ish Mary Janes while perusing organic goods. Or she will be photographed in Chakra-realigning ivory linens whilst walking her beloved dog “Milo” and listening to – what I imagine to be – white noise on her AirPods Max. That is because Kaia Gerber is a slow-paced, Sunday kinda girl.
Or, at least, she tends to get photographed on Sundays. This past weekend Kaia was snapped in a Bec and Bridge trench coat, Khaite sunglasses and Adidas Sambas. She was, of course, carrying a sensible tote bag: this time purchased at McNally Jackson, an independent book shop in New York. Because she runs a book club. It’s a little less flash than her appearances on the Valentino catwalk, but with every Sunday that passes, I get a little closer to understanding Kaia’s inner sanctum. Perhaps she will be photographed at a local allotment next. In Birkenstocks, or a hand-embroidered Bode shirt.
