No. 13/12 Rams Welcome Denver to Moby Arena – Colorado State Athletics


FORT COLLINS – Top 15 ranked Colorado State men’s basketball opens a three-game homestand on Wednesday when Denver makes the trip north to Fort Collins. The Rams and Pioneers are set to tip-off at 7 pm MT.
Opening Tip
– Colorado State improved to 8-0 on the year a gritty 86-81 win against Washington in Las Vegas on Saturday.
– The Rams are 8-0 for the first time since the 2021-22 season when CSU opened the season with 11 straight wins.
– CSU’s eight game win streak is tied for the longest in the nation.
– Colorado State is one of 14 teams still undefeated in the nation.
– CSU’s men’s and women’s teams are both still undefeated making the university one of four in the nation to say so.
– The Rams earned their highest-ever ranking in both the AP and Coaches Top 25 this week checking in at No. 13 and 12, respectively.
– Colorado State checked in at No. 7 in the inaugural NET rankings for the 2023-24 season released on Monday morning.
– Head coach Niko Medved is in his sixth year leading Colorado State. He is 100-64 as the Rams’ head coach. The win on Saturday against Washington was the 100th for him leading the Green & Gold. Medved is now one of five coaches in the program’s history to reach the 100 wins mark.
Isaiah Stevens returns for his final year of eligibility and the nation is taking notice of the guard. Stevens was named the Mountain West Preseason Player of the Year, Wooden Top 50 Preseason List and one of 20 players named to the Bob Cousy Preseason Watch List.
– Stevens has three double-doubles on the year and already reset one of his own records when he posted 14 assists against Wright State. He is averaging 17.1 points, 7.9 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game while shooting 54.3% from the field and 46.4% behind the arc.
– He earned his second straight Mountain West Player of the Week honor after averaging 16.0 points, 8.0 assists and 2.0 steals in a pair of wins over Colorado and Washington.
– Newcomer Joel Scott continues to be a big presence inside for CSU averaging 14.9 points and 6.8 rebounds. He led the team with 17 points and eight rebounds in the win against Washington.
Nique Clifford has enjoyed his time in Fort Collins transferring to CSU from Colorado. He is shooting an impressive 60.3% from the field including 55.0% from behind the arc on his way to averaging 11.8 points and 5.8 rebounds.
Patrick Cartier returned to the court for CSU on Saturday scoring 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting off the bench. Cartier is averaging 11.3 points per game for the Rams.
– Colorado State leads the Mountain West in assist-to-turnover ratio(2.09), assists per game (20.1), effective field goal percentage (60.2%), field goal percentage (52.7), free throw percentage (78.2%) and 3-pointer per game (8.8).
Scouting the Pioneers
Denver enters Wednesday night’s matchup with a 6-3 record and winners of their last four games. Head coach Jeff Wulbrun enters his third season in guiding the Pioneers.
DU has a pair of dynamic scorers in Tommy Bruner and Touko Tainamo. Bruner is averaging 23.6 points  per game to rank third in the nation while Tainamo adds in 19.2 and 8.9 rebounds.
A key to Denver’s success is reaching the free throw line averaging 21.1 makes and 28.8 attempts per game. Their percentage of 73.4% leads the Summit League and ranks in the top 100 in the nation.
