Pictured: HMS Prince of Wales full steam ahead in Nato training exercise

Date:

HMS Prince of Wales has been pictured taking part in the Nato training exercise Steadfast Defender on Wednesday in a new image released by the Ministry of Defence.

The Royal Navy aircraft carrier led 14 other vessels in formation in the North Sea as planes flew past as part of the Nordic Response 24 drill.

Flanking the HMS Prince of Wales were the American destroyer USS Paul Ignatius and Spanish frigate ESPS Almirante Juan de Borbon.

The row behind included frigate HMS Portland, RFA Tidespring, the Italian aircraft carrier ITS Giuseppe Garibaldi, and the French frigate FS Normandie.

The ships at the back include RFA Mounts Bay, Norwegian frigate HNOMS Otto Sverdrup and German replenishment vessel FGS Bonn.

HMS Portland, the ship furthest left of HMS Prince of Wales in the picture, is a Royal Navy Type 23 Duke Class frigate based in Plymouth.

On the furthest right of the picture is the FS Normandie, an Aquitaine-class frigate of the French Navy launched in 2018.
